Science on the developing brain has made clear that the first years of life are critical for laying a foundation and helping children reach their full potential. Addressing challenges later in life is much harder and more expensive. Children thrive when they are part of stable, healthy families, live in safe environments, and have access to quality early care and education. Unfortunately, for many young families in Maine, it is a challenge to ensure that their children get a strong start.
Maine’s youngest children are tomorrow’s students, workers, parents, and community members. That is why it is critical that we invest in young children and families. By supporting family well-being and stability, early health care, and quality early learning, we invest directly in the future of our communities and the Maine economy.
